New Bexar County Democratic Chair Sworn In:

Monica Ramirez Alcantara has officially been sworn in as the new Chair of the Bexar County Democratic Party. She was victorious in her first official bid for publicly elected office, securing 67% of the vote against controversial incumbent Manuel Medina’s 33%.

Chairwoman Alcantara had previously worked as a paralegal in both Houston and San Antonio. She ran on a platform of blue unity in preparation for this November’s elections, and likely benefited heavily from the collective anger against her predecessor stemming from a controversial mayoral run.

Her inauguration was held at Woodlawn Point on June 11 in conjunction with the presentation of the official nominees of the Bexar County Democratic Party. She, along with the nominees, face a mounting challenge in November as the Republican party gears up their own election efforts. Representative Joaquin Castro and other significant members of the party spoke in support of the Chairwoman and gave positive forecasts for November with Chairwoman Alcantara at the head of our city’s Democratic efforts.
