Written by on May 9, 2018

San Antonio, Texas — The Carver Cultural Center’s Youth Matinee Series presented Lil Buck & Mihai Marca: What Moves You Friday, May 11th at the Jo Long Theatre with a free matinee performance followed by an evening show as part of the Carver’s 2017/2018 Season.  What Moves You is an an intimate duo collaboration between Lil Buck, an international phenomenon who began performing a street dance that originated in Memphis called jookin’, and one of today’s youngest and most accomplished cellists, Mihai Marica.

Audiences were treated to a “jaw-dropping, eye-popping performance of unbelievable artistry and athleticism,” as Lil Buck and Marica present an interactive performance that reveals the intricacy and immediacy of the creative process between movement and music, and challenge the boundaries of what the two instruments – the body and the cello – can do.

During the interactive lecture-demonstration, students were able to learn more about both artists and their art forms and inspirations.  The Carver Community Cultural Center presents premier artistic events, community outreach activities and educational programs emphasizing African American heritage.  The Youth Matinee Series engages children, teachers and families through performing arts by igniting imaginations and introducing students to the global community of diverse cultures by opening doors to greater knowledge and understanding of our world by fostering a love for the arts and learning.
